William (Bill) Abplanalp

William (Bill) Abplanalp is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Business Information Technology. He received a B.S. in Management Science and Information Technology and a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business. Bill has held senior leadership roles across higher education and private industry, where he built and led audit and cybersecurity programs that strengthened organizational resilience and accountability. His work has covered complex regulatory environments, with a focus on risk-based decision-making, governance, privacy, and aligning security initiatives with strategic objectives. Bill is known for his ability to translate technical challenges into actionable insights for executive stakeholders and for fostering strong partnerships between business, IT, and compliance teams.
