Dr. Caleb Bradberry is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Business Information Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and his M.B.A. and B.B.A. from Marshall University in West Virginia.
A native of Appalachia, Dr. Bradberry was born and raised in West Virginia before moving to North Carolina to pursue his doctoral studies. His doctoral studies focused on applying data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence solutions to both practical problems and emerging societal challenges.
Dr. Bradberry's current work includes his "Securing Human Identities from Exploitative Learning and Deepfakes" (SHIELD) Initiative addresses the alarming reality that modern AI has enabled deepfake models are being used for cyberbullying. Through SHIELD, he works to identify real world AI risks to humans and develop frameworks for schools and governments to operationalize protective laws that mitigate societal risks without stifling innovation.
His medical technology research includes developing a machine learning transformer that serves as a universal medical coding translator, enabling seamless translation between different coding systems. Beyond his work with medical coding, Dr. Bradberry explores the intersection of synthetic image generation and medical diagnostics, using deepfake techniques to generate breast, prostate, ovary, and lung cancer images for testing detection algorithms without compromising any individual’s protected health information.
Dr. Bradberry champions personal data privacy and security both in his academic research and teaching in the classroom. He is also the founder and CEO of United Statistics, a machine learning and AI consulting business he founded to help small and medium-sized firms better grasp what AI can and more importantly cannot do for businesses.
