Alan Abrahams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Information Technology at Virginia Tech.  His current research interests are in the areas of web mining, healthcare operations management, storage of legal documents, and entrepreneurial decision support and e-commerce systems.  He also has a strong interest in entrepreneurship education and research, particularly e-commerce venture facilitation, and he is founding faculty advisor to the highly popular Online Business Guidebook, a student-authored e-commerce textbook read by over 80,000 readers.  Dr. Abrahams has recently published papers on success factors for e-commerce start-ups, e-mail marketing tactics used by franchise corporations, the use of data mining for new product rollout planning, learning methodologies for e-commerce education, and techniques for assuring economic value from entrepreneurial IT projects.  He received a PhD with a major in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Business Science degree with a major in Information Systems from the University of Cape Town.
