John Mangan
John Mangan is the Chief Information Security Officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he has worked for over two decades. In total, John has over 36 years of government and military service. He has over 30 years of information technology and cybersecurity experience. He has security oversight for all FBOP information technology systems. He is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring FBOP-wide information security policy and programs for IT security, cybersecurity, and access to FBOP IT systems.
John retired from the military with 25 years of service. During that time, he played an integral role in troubleshooting IT systems and computer electronics and managing complex teams to accomplish missions and goals. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan. He served both in the US Navy and Naval Reserve for 13 years and the Army National guard for 12 years. He has been deployed to Desert Storm, Operation Uphold Democracy, UN embargo of Yugoslavia, Global War on Terror, and Afghanistan War. He also holds an associate degree in Management Information Systems.
John lives in Stafford, VA with his wife, Jeannine. His daughter Ellie is a BIT Cyber Security major at VT. John is an avid fly fisherman and can be found on a trout stream when not working and spending time with his family.
